"One who never travels think it is only his mother who is a good cook" – Kikuyu proverb |

In sharp contrast to the lush Chobe River front is the almost desert like landscape of the Savute during the dry season. The most typical feature of the landscape is the dead trees – evidence of the erratic flow of the Savute channel over the years. In the rainy season the landscape turns green, the pans fill up and the nutritious grasses of the Savute Marsh and the Mababe Depression becomes a vital source of energy for the thousands of zebra and wildebeest. Whether summer or winter the Savute will never disappoint! Linyanti area is one of the best wildlife destinations in Botswana, equal to the Delta, especially during the dry season when the permanent water of the Kwando and Linyanti rivers attract vast numbers of game. You are assured of a wildlife experience never to be forgotten. The Jewel of Africa venues:
Best time to be there. (Recommendation only winter, as in summer the game move to the nutritious grasses of the Savute and Mababe depressions). |

Day 1We leave via the Groblers Brug/Martins drift border post (704km) via Lethlakane for Audi camp –outside Maun where we will spend the first night. It is quite a long drive but the roads are recently newly tarred and in good condition. Maun, the last stock up with fuel and the O’ shacks forgot at home shopping. It’s worth while as we enjoy a hot shower, nice pool and open pub. Restaurant and pitched tents are also available. Ice blocks and vacuum packed meat can be pre arranged to be picked up from Madelize at deltadeli@dynabyte.bw. Day 2/3Break camp and head for Mankwe Bush camp, we are on the edge of an unforgettable exploration and will camp here for two nights. Today we do a river crossing through the Kwai river and a full day game drive with a picnic lunch in one of the best game viewing areas of Botswana. Afternoon work our way back to our camp at Mankwe. Day 4Break camp and leave via the Mababe Depression for Savute and Linyanti in the Chobe National park. Remarkable to imagine that this desolate area was once submerged under an inland sea. One of the most wildlife photographed areas in the whole of Africa. The awesome couple Derek and Beverley Joubert`s “Eternal Enemies” and others where filmed here. We spend one night in Savute. Day 5/6Break camp and head to Linyanti. a 4x4 is required on all roads in this area, there are very clayey soils in the Mopane veld and very thick sand in the Sand veld. This road probably contains the worst sand in Chobe, its only 39km. but hard driving and can take up to 4 hours.”Stop worrying about the potholes in the road and celebrate the journey”-Mullen. Linyanti camp is nestled under huge Jackalberry trees with ablutions and running water. We camp here for the next two nights. Day 7Break camp and travel to Kasane via Kachikau where we will overnight at the Chobe Safari Lodge. An outstanding camp site with ablutions, hot water showers, a charismatic pub overlooking the Chobe river and a swimming pool for the brave hearted. Day 8A day at leisure in the northern Chobe. The blue sparkling water of the Chobe attracts thousands of game and birds. It’s especially famous for having the largest continuous surviving elephant population in Africa, huge herds of buffalo and the rare Roan Antelope.. Last but not least for its boat cruise watch a brilliant sunset over the Zambezi with sundowner in hand. – An African experience not to be missed. Day 9/10Break camp and leave early morning via the ferry (pontoon boat) at Kazangula. We leave the four countries meeting point to “Mosi-oa-Tunya-smoke that thunders.” The Victoria Falls, the Brightest trinket in the globe trotters box of curios is approximately 1690m wide and varies in height from 62m at the “Devils Cataract” to 109m at the “Eastern Cataract”, this seems to dwarf the Niagra Falls 968m wide and an average height of 54m. Various activities are available at the Falls:
We spend two nights at the Zambezi waterfront in Livingstone. |
